Thieves make off with more than $64,000 payroll

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MORE than $64,000 - which was earmarked to pay workers of a construction company - was stolen by two individuals last week, the Police Force has reported.

     

    In a press release issued today (Mar. 6), the Force indicated that its Criminal Investigations Department is looking into the “robbery” which took place at a residence on Cayon Street, sometime after 6:30 on Thursday (Mar. 2) evening.

     

    “Investigations revealed that virtual complainant uses his residence on Cayon Street as a ‘home office’ and while there two assailants entered the premises of and robbed him of a sum of money in excess of $64,000.00 EC. The money was the payroll for construction workers,” the press release stated. 

     

    Deputy Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy confirmed to SKNVibes that the money was to pay workers employed by KIER Construction Ltd, the company which was contracted to build the Park Hyatt.

     

    The police communique informed that the incident did not result in injury.
