BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - APPROXIMATELY eight months after human remains were discovered in the Newton Ground mountain area, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has informed of the identity of the individual whose remains they were.
On July 29, 2016, a Police-issued press release indicated that a lifeless body was discovered in the Fahie’s Mountain area.
Investigations into the incident were being made, and while there were abundant rumours which suggested that Lincoln ‘Markie’ Liburd – a resident of Newtown who had gone missing since earlier that week – was the person whose body was found, there was no confirmation.
Yesterday (Mar. 9) at the most-recent of the Prime Minister’s monthly press conferences, Deputy Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy, in response to a question from the media, informed that the remains found in Fahie’s Mountain were indeed Liburd’s.
“Concerning the body that was found in the mountain, that person was Lincoln Liburd alias Markie and that body was positively identified by both fingerprint and close friends.”
DCP Brandy informed that because of the advanced state of decomposition, the body had to be speedily buried and that was done by the Social Services Department.
He advised that no one has been held accountable for Liburd’s death.
