Prime Minister Harris credits Team Unity cohesiveness for economic success

Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, with show host His Excellency Ambassador Michael at the studios of Sugar City 90.3 FM
By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 8, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- St. Kitts and Nevis is doing well economically in the region, and Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Timothy Harris has said that the country is on the path to become the model of the best managed small island state in the world.

“I want to remind the country that Team Unity is a coming together of persons for love of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Team Unity represents a historic break with the past with which some people are so obsessed.”

Prime Minister Harris made the remarks on Monday May 8 while a guest of His Excellency Ambassador Michael Powell on his People’s Voice programme aired live on Sugar City 90.3 FM from Greenlands.

“Team Unity represents a break with the past tradition of crass partisan political politics where we have agreed that we will elevate the country and the national interest above party for good of all the people of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Dr Harris.

He pointed out that since they had agreed to elevate the country and the national interest above party, Team Unity remained a cohesive group, with a cabinet that is strong and one that has remained resilient, notwithstanding of the delusional mountings of mountains of those in opposition.

The Prime Minister thanked his Cabinet colleagues for their support, and most importantly for remaining focused on their agenda of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. He noted that if they were not focused as a Cabinet, they would not have been able to have delivered so many results which have now made the country the envy of so many people and so many countries around the world.

“It is remarkable but it is the will of God that in so short a period of time we can proudly say there is no other government that has succeeded and that has been able to perform and deliver on its promises with the rapidity and sincerity with which we have done so far,” he pointed out.

He added: “And you marvel at this time, at this special unique standing of St. Kitts and Nevis as a well-managed country. We the members of the Cabinet intend to make St. Kitts and Nevis the model of the best managed small island state in the world. And it is a realisable goal which we have set ourselves.”

Wanting citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis to appreciate how blessed the country was, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris pointed out that news out this week was that Puerto Rico, even with all its proximity to the USA, and with all of its special relationship with the USA, it had been classified as a bankrupt state. And with all of its unique preferences for investment today Puerto Rico is a country in fiscal morass, while St. Kitts and Nevis is a country with a fiscal surplus.

Other regional countries the Prime Minister mentioned included St. Lucia where the prime minister was speaking to the illiquidity problems that are facing his country, due to the fact that he had inherited a country that was broke. He also noted that Trinidad and Tobago was going through its own period of difficulty.

“St Kitts and Nevis has amassed surpluses which we have put to good use,” revealed the Minister of Finance. “We can trust this hitherto spectacular performance in the region to where they are now and the unique case of St. Kitts and Nevis as the bright light shining in the region.

“We have no minerals, we have no oil. What we are blessed with is a good progressive government that knows how to manage and that puts the interest of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis first and for this we should say to God be the glory.”
