Ottawa, Canada (27 July, 2017) – Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Crime Directorate, Andre Mitchell, is currently in Ottawa where he is engaging with officials from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) on a range of policing matters.

While in the Canadian capital, ACP Mitchell is meeting with top officials at the national headquarters of the RCMP and at the Canadian Police College. The meetings seek to strengthen existing cooperation with a longstanding security partner. It was agreed that that there are opportunities for enhanced collaboration particularly in training a new generation of police officers in the Federation.  Areas identified for increased cooperation include training in investigative techniques, forensic interviewing techniques, witness protection and sexual crime investigation.  The use of technology in policing was also identified as an area ripe for future collaboration.

During the visit, the Assistant Commissioner of Police was accompanied by High Commissioner Shirley Skerritt-Andrew and her team.  While meeting with the RCMP, the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation was escorted on a tour of the RCMP’s famed horse stables.

The bolstering of policing cooperation with the RCMP forms part of the Government’s outreach with regional and international partners as it continues to prioritise the fight against crime and insecurity in the Federation.
