BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT was an evening of entertainment, glorious bounbaries, rain and an embarrassing power failure as the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots loss their final home game to the Trinbago Knight Riders under the Duckworth/Lewis Syatem.

Taking first strike in an early evening game yesterday (Aug. 24), the home side made a brisk start as Evin Lewis and Chris Gayle went their merry ways, until a sudden power outage that only affected the grounds stopped play.

That problem lasted for just over one and a half hours as technicians scampered to restore power, which was compounded with a heavy downpour of rain that saw a two-hour break in play.

When play resumed, Gayle and Lewis continued pushing the scoring rate until another bout of shower interrupted the game which was reduced to 18 overs.

With the overs further reduced 13, Gayle (93), Lewis (39) and Shamar Brooks (20) powered the Patriots to a competitive 162 for 3.

Every Trinbago Knight Riders’ bowlers came in for punishment from an inform Chris Gayle - Sunil Narine 1 for 36 from 3 overs and Ronsford Beaton 1 for 41 from 3 overs were the best bowlers for the visitors.

In their turn at the crease, the Knight Riders made a brisk start through Brendan McCullum’s attacking approach that pushed the score to 31 for 2 off 3.1 overs, but another shower of rain stopped play.

On resumption of play and with the overs reduced to six, the Knight Riders were chasing 52 from 17 balls and their batsmen demonstrated why they are the table toppers by hammering the bowlers for a number of sixes in the third over.

In the fourth over, Darren Bravo and McCullum clobbered Mohammed Nabi for 23 runs before the end.

They closed their innings on 88 for 2, chasing 86 runs for victory.

The Patriots would now be looking to regroup ahead of their encounters against the Jamaica Tallawahs and the Barbados Tridents.

They have already qualified for the Playoffs but are waiting to see in which position that be, as the two remaining position are not yet confirmed.
