NEMA Press Release

Members of staff of NEMA, led by Deputy National Disaster Coordinator, Mrs. Claricia Langley-Stevens, performed a mission of mercy early this morning, by providing shelterees at the St. Johnsons and Newtown Community Centres with food.

The undertaking was supervised by newly-appointed Districts Coordinator, Ms. Bereece Williams, who determined that food provided at the NEOC (National Emergency Operations Centre at NEMA HQ, was enough to be shared with a small group of shelter residents.

“We are not speaking about an abundance of supply,” Ms. Williams said, “Just enough to feed a few persons who were thought to be in great need of assistance at a time when a donation of food was made to the NEOC, on their behalf.”

The trek to the Village Community Centre and to Newtown, was also made by other staff, including Patrick Williams, Driver and Public Relations Officer, Vesta Southwell.

The Shelters are currently being manned by the courageous and selfless Volunteers of the NEMA District Management system. Deputy NDC Stevens has said that without the support and commitment of the NEMA Volunteers, the capacity of the agency (NEMA) would be greatly diminished.
