By: SKNIS, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 20th September, 2017 (SKNIS)—The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis as of today, Wednesday, 20th September, has given the all clear to the public after the passage of Hurricane Maria, which impacted the country for a few hours from September 19-20, 2017.

Chair of the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC), Deputy Prime Minister the Honourable Shawn Richards, reported that the Rapid Assessment Teams had made their country-wide assessments and given the green light for the country to resume a state normalcy, while recovery efforts continue.

The essential services workers such as the security forces, fire and rescue, healthcare workers and airport workers have reported for work. Power and water have already been restored to several parts of the country and the guarantee has been given that these services will be restored as soon as possible to those places without.

Today (September 20) has been declared a public holiday, as well as National Clean-Up Day by the government to request citizens and residents to remain in their communities and to volunteer in the clean-up of their environment.
