GIS, 16 November 2017 - His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales is due to arrive in the Virgin Islands on Saturday and will be shown some of the devastated areas hit by Hurricane Irma. He will hear about the ways in which the islands have been recovering.

Governor Jaspert along with the Premier, Dr. The Honourable D. Orlando Smith, OBE will host His Royal Highness on a tour of Tortola to see the challenges and areas where progress has been made with the help of the local community, government, and of friends overseas.

He will meet members of the public at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday afternoon where music will be playing and a cultural performance will take place. Members of the public are advised to arrive by 2:15 p.m. to ensure they are ready for his arrival.

He will also be accompanied by the Rt Hon. Penny Mordaunt MP, Secretary of State for the Department for International Development in the UK.

The programme will also include areas which received assistance and aid from the UK. The Governor will host a reception at Government House where His Royal Highness will be able to meet people who were involved in the response to the hurricanes.

Governor Jaspert said, “I am looking forward to welcoming His Royal Highness to the Virgin Islands. The people of these islands have faced challenging times and I am proud to show him what we have achieved. We have a long way to go but with the community working together and with UK and international support we will get there. I hope that His Royal Highness enjoys his visit and comes back to see us when these islands are fully restored to their former beauty.”
