BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE St. Kitts-Nevis U-20 girls ended a disastrous World Cup Qualifiers with another sound thrashing, this time at the feet of powerhouse Jamaica, 9-nil.
Looking to end the tournament on a high note, the Sugar Girls never found their feet in the game which was played before a fair-sized crowd at Warner Park.
The young Reggae Girls were led in their goal fest by Marlee Fray, who netted a hat trick with strikes in the 51st, 73rd and 88th minutes.
Fray gained support from Shayla Smart, who scored a double in the 8th and 83rd minutes, while Jody Brown also netted twice – opening her account in the 9th minute before slotting home another in the 79th.
Also registering goals for the Jamaicans were Jadyn Matthews in the 58th minute and Alufoloshade Adomoluken in the 71st, as the team tops the group and progresses to Trinidad and Tobago in top form.
In a straight shoot out for the final qualifying spot, Haiti took care of business by brushing aside Dominican Republic 4-1.
Daniele Etienne continued in her rich form for Haiti by netting a double, scoring in the 60th and 81st minutes.
Nerilla Mondesir opened the score in the 40th minute, while Melchie Dumonay’s 90th minute strike put paid to the Spanish-speaking girls’ chances of mounting any fight back.
Dominican Republic’s Alyssa Jazmin 45th minute strike was the only consolation for her team as they crashed out.
As group winners, Jamaica will be placed in Group B with the United States, Nicaragua and Mexico; and Haiti will be slotted with Costa Rica, Canada and host Trinidad and Tobago.
