Scotiabank Supports Child Literacy at Tucker Clarke Primary School

Press Release

February 5th, 2018 -- With their loyal support of the development of a first-class lending library of 2,960 new amazing books at Tucker Clarke Primary School, the Scotiabank Community Program has shown that Scotiabank strongly believes in the advancement of child literacy on St. Kitts.

Mr. Gordon Julien, Country Manager of Scotiabank St. Kitts and Nevis, said, “Scotiabank is proud to be empowering the youth of St. Kitts through this literacy partnership with Hands Across the Sea. There is no greater gift than the gift of education and so we are pleased to be championing this programme in six markets. The committed efforts of the team at the Tucker Clarke Primary School have advanced their students’ literacy and nurtured their love of books and reading.”

Mr. Julien added that the donation shows Scotiabank’s continued commitment to both Kittitian children and the community.

“At Hands Across the Sea our mission is to give every child on St. Kitts and Nevis access to a lending library of new, exciting, age-appropriate and culturally relevant reading material,” says Harriet Linskey, Executive Director of Hands Across the Sea. “The continued support from Scotiabank’s Community Program has made great advances possible at Tucker Clarke Primary School. We also thank Principal Leslie Richardson, Librarian Beverly Prentice, the Hands Across the Sea Literacy Link, Heidi Fagerberg, and the St. Kitts Ministry of Education for being such wonderful partners in education.”
