Belize City- February 5, 2018 - The Canadian Government funded Improved Access to Justice in the Caribbean (IMPACT Justice) Project, is sponsoring a 3 day Training of Trainers workshop to certify 6 persons as Restorative Practices trainers. The workshop is being held at the Best Western Plus Belize Hotel, Belize City, Belize from February 5th to 7th, 2018.
The workshop, which is the first part of the certification process, is being facilitated by the International Institute of Restorative Practices, Canada and the participants include Mr. Charles Mariano, Lecturer in Primary Education, Stann Creek Ecumenical Junior College, Mr. Miguel Montero, Assistant Dean, Corozal Junior College, Miss Santos Tesecum, Lecturer, Sacred Heart Junior College, Dr. June Young, Chair of Education, Faculty of Education and Arts, University of Belize, Dr. Nikolaos Stamatakis, Assistant Professor/ Programme Leader Institute for Criminology & Public Safety, University of Trinidad and Tobago and Mrs. Ann Hamilton Dopwell, Lecturer, Early Childhood Education, St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. Ms. Cecilia Babb, Gender Specialist, IMPACT Justice will also be in attendance to facilitate a gender sensitivity session.
This workshop is the second Training of Trainers workshop to be sponsored by IMPACT Justice. The first was held in Barbados in November, 2017. IMPACT Justice will also be sponsoring another Training of Trainers workshop in Antigua and Barbuda for 6 educators, 3 from Antigua and Barbuda and 3 from St. Kitts and Nevis from February 12th, to 14th, 2018 at the Trade Winds Hotel, Antigua and Barbuda.
Restorative Practices has been recognised throughout many developed countries as an excellent tool to help address many of the conflicts which arise within schools, whether they occur between students, students and teachers and amongst teachers themselves. When effectively used, restorative practices can lead to more peaceful environments in schools, fewer disruptions and fewer instances of bullying and other harmful behaviours.
