BASSETERRE, St. Kitts,Apr.5.2018 – A Basseterre man was charged with several counts of rape earlier this week.
According to a press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force today (Apr. 5), the man who is said to reside in the Basseterre area was charged with two counts of rape on Monday (Apr. 2).
“The first incident occurred on February 03, 2018 and the second on March 31, 2018,” the release added.
Information regarding crimes of this nature are kept confidential for the alleged victims’ protection. Names and personal details surrounding the alleged victims are never published while the perpetrator’s information is only released after conviction.
Over the last several months a number of rapes have reportedly occurred in the Basseterre area and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Two Hon. Marcella Liburd has been vocal with regards to attacks on women.
“We are seeing increases in rapes, and the violation of women’s homes; a lot of the homes are being run by women. So, we need some form of protection for women.” She stated in one interview.
