Premier Brantley commends police for apprehension in Mem’s robbery

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, May. 01. 2018 – PREMIER, Mark Brantley has again chastised parents for the role they are playing in the development of their children.

He gave strong words following the quick apprehension of a juvenile and another individual for the armed robbery of Mem’s Pizzeria in Nevis on Wednesday (Apr. 25).

Police reported that they responded to a call of an armed robbery on Wednesday at about 9:18 p.m. and upon arrival found the staff and customers of the establishment outside.

“They caught one juvenile with items believed to be those stolen from persons at the Pizzeria. He was taken into custody.”

On Saturday, the juvenile was charged with Armed Robbery, according to a police statement.

Addressing reporters at his press conference yesterday (Apr. 30), Brantley commended law enforcement officers for the quick apprehension.

However, the Premier lamented that he was disheartened to hear of the robbery as the owner is a good friend, and he took the opportunity to rebuke the young people of Nevis for not wanting to take up gainful employment.

He said: “We have in our society people who feel that they must do what they want, must get what they want, don’t care who it cost, and will sit down all day and watch you do work,... work hard and their role is to come and take from you.”

Against that backdrop, he encouraged the people to do what is right and train children in the way they should operate.

“Everybody say Premier, it is your problem, government ministers it is your problem; so, what about their parents? What about the communities? You think that some of these homes the parents and family members don’t know that these youngsters have firearms in the homes? Of course.”

In recent times, both the Premier and the Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris have called on the parents to take ownership of their children seriously.

Just recently, a mother and her son (juvenile) were charged for drugs that were found in their home.

According to police, a raid was conducted by officers on the home of the mother and large quantities of marijuana were found.
