BVI, 8 June 2018 - Heavy equipment operators and contractors will benefit from a free construction industry workshop next week.

Director of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs, Mrs. Karia Christopher said the department has taken notice of an increase in the number of businesses in this specific sector and as part of its building capacity initiative, has found it imperative to strengthen the industry through effective core competencies for managing their businesses.

Mrs. Christopher said, “It is important for our businesses throughout the Territory, especially the businesses within the heavy equipment, trucking and construction industry to heighten their production and accountability through this capacity building workshop, particularly post hurricanes Irma and Maria in an effort to meet international standards.”

Participants will learn how to provide excellent customer service; how to deal with customer queries; liabilities that come along with the sector; significance of being a legal and operating company; how to run a successful construction firm; and tips on quantity surveying and expectations when hired to do a job.

The workshop is scheduled to be held at the Moorings Conference Room on Thursday, June 14 from 5:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m.

Persons should contact the Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs at 468-4280 or email them at bvitrade@gov.vg to register.

The Department of Trade, Investment Promotion and Consumer Affairs is responsible for facilitating the development and growth of the BVI business environment, by helping businesses to realise their full potential. This is done through the establishment and management of programmes and networks that provide information, education, training, finance and other assistance in order to foster sustained economic development in the BVI.
