BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- The St. Kitts-Nevis Tennis Association (SKNTA) has ushered in a new executive body to lead its affairs for the next two years, following its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday, February 3rd, at the Warner Park Cricket Ground.

After discussions and presentations of reports by incumbent President Watkins Chiverton and Treasurer Neil Owen, the executive committee was duly elected.

Watkins Chiverton retained his position as President uncontested, while Walwyn Chiverton also maintained his role as Vice President without opposition. Neil Owen, who withdrew from the VP position, returned as Treasurer.

Additionally, Jermine Abel reclaimed the position of Executive Member unopposed. The SKNTA welcomed new members including Glenna Evelyn as Secretary, Glentine Wattley-Sutton as Assistant Secretary, Tracey Wattley, Jamoy Bryan, and Sunita Rawat as Executive Members.

President Chiverton emphasized that the association's primary focus is on enhancing the developmental program for junior players, who have shown promising performances on the regional stage in recent years.

"Our main focus is to continue and expand our developmental program. Our mantra for this term is 'let us build on the game of developing our players,' advocating for an all-inclusive and comprehensive approach," Chiverton remarked.

Chiverton highlighted the importance of nurturing players in the Under 10s, 12s, and 14s categories, emphasizing the need for further development to propel them to the next level.

Moreover, the president stressed the association's commitment to attracting high-quality tournaments to provide players with competitive opportunities, while also focusing on enhancing coaches' capacities for junior development.

Meanwhile, the association aims to bring back the International Tennis Federation (ITF) J5 Series to the federation, with the tournament last held in 2019 before being paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Chiverton noted that the successful return of the tournament hinges on the timely resurfacing of the Warner Park tennis courts to enable the association to make the necessary applications.
