BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -- Police have confirmed that 34-year-old Joseph Anthony Charles, also known as 'Happy Happy', of Back Way, Sandy Point, has been charged in connection with the murder of Jermaine Greene.

The deceased, a Jamaican national who resided on St. Kitts, was fatally shot in Downing Street, Sandy Point, between 11:45 p.m. and midnight.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the 29-year-old Jamaican national was approached by an armed assailant while seated outside an establishment. The assailant fired several shots at Greene, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

In recent days, law enforcement authorities have made significant progress in apprehending individuals involved in homicides and other criminal activities. This progress comes amidst a surge in criminal incidents, particularly homicides, within the Federation.

Commissioner of Police James Sutton recently highlighted the utilization of the Seven-Point Plan outlined in the Strategic Plan 2023-2026 to combat escalating crime and violence.

Meanwhile, Charles was formally charged on February 28th, 2024, at the Basseterre Police Station.
