The Captain of the American Airlines 757, which landed at St. Kitts' Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Saturday says the landing was "very nice" and that he hopes to bring more charters to the twin-island Federation.

"Wonderful. The island is beautiful. It was perfect (landing)," said the aircraft's captain, Jim Lamb.

Lamb, who made history by landing the first American Airlines 575 aircraft at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport said his 188 passengers are "excited about being here."

"We (the crew) are happy to be here. We just wish that we could stay. We have to turn around and fly right back," Lamb said.

He told the Communications Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister that the just over four and a half-hour flight from Dallas-Fort-Worth International brought in a special charter for the St. Kitts Marriott Resort and the Royal Beach Casino.

"We are chartered for the flight in and back out and I am not quite sure how many more flights we will have in the future, but hopefully we will have a lot more. We are excited about the opportunity to be on the island and to provide the service and we would like to provide more service," he said.

Lamb said landing an American Airlines 757 aircraft for the first time at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport "is very nice."

"It is an easy approach. The winds were a little gusting, but the runway is pretty long enough for us to bring the 757 in and

we had no problem whatsoever," said Lamb.

American Airlines St. Kitts Manager, Mr. Hugh Mallalieu said the 757, which carries 188 passengers  "22 First Class and 166 Economy in seats"  is the "type of aircraft we hope to upgrade to on a scheduled service prior to World Cup in 2007."

American Airlines operates a 737 aircraft, which carries 148 passengers on the scheduled five times weekly service into the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport from Miami. American Eagle also operates daily flights from the San Juan International Airport in Puerto Rico.

US Airways operates scheduled two non-stop flights into St. Kitts from North Carolina and from Philadelphia and Excel Airways has a direct flight from London-Gatwick to St. Kitts on Saturdays.

SkyService operates charter flights from Canada on Saturday.

WINAIR, LIAT, Caribbean Sun and Caribbean Star also operate scheduled service at the Robert Bradshaw Airport.

A multi-million dollar project involving the construction of a new aircraft parking apron to accommodate six wide-bodied jets, construction of a parallel taxiway and the new fuel farm is underway.
