    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, APRIL 18TH 2006 -
    St. Kitts and Nevis' Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, is in Antigua for the 20th Meeting of the Bureau of the CARICOM Conference of Heads of Government.

     

    Prime Minister Douglas, the Incoming CARICOM Chairman, is accompanied by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Terry Nisbett.

     

    The meeting, which started Tuesday, under the chairmanship of outgoing Chairman, Prime Minister Hon. Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago, will among other matters assess the state of readiness of six Caricom member states for Single Market compliance.

     

    The bureau is also expected to discuss the Caribbean's progress towards the establishment of the framework for the single economy by 2008.

     

    It will receive an update on the developments in Haiti following the election of Dr. Rene Preval and assess preparations for two imminent

     

    meetings: the third Caricom-Spain summit set for May 10th and 11th, and the fourth European Union and the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) summit on May 12th and 13th .

     

    St. Kitts and Nevis, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are to join the Single Market by June 30th.
