    Basseterre , St. Kitts, April 24, 2006: The Old Road Fisheries Complex is scheduled to be completed by November 2006.
    This is according to Mr. Yuji Nazaki, Chief Civil Engineer of the Fisheries Development Department of ICONS International Cooperation.  Mr. Nazaki is presently overseeing the construction of the fishing compound and he said that they are presently working on the jetty and the piling is scheduled to commence next month.
     
    The ICONS International Chief Civil Engineer said that at the moment the jetty is being put down and the piling will begin next month.
     
    Parliamentary Representative for the area Honourable Rupert Herbert said that the completion of the new fisheries complex will cause several improvements to his constituency.  He outlined that the coastline will be more protected, the fishermen will be able to enhance their profession and become more innovative and as a result become classified among the upper  earning income groups.
     
    Minister Herbert stressed that the larger number of fish are caught by the Old Road fishermen and the new fisheries will assist them in doing even better.
     
    Representing the fishermen of the area, Mr. Marcus Spencer said that the new fisheries will provide better facilities including storage which will assist them in landing more fish.  The facilities will also make it easier for them to unload their equipment and they will have access to ice.
     
    Ministers Herbert and Liburd visited the construction site of the new fisheries on Thursday, April 20, 2006.
