Bring It Tour invaded Fort Street with regional performers

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS one of the many scheduled activities for the ICC World Twenty20 Cricket ‘Bring It’ launch, a number of artistes including Fay-Ann Lyons-Alvarez and Mr. Vegas rocked Fort Street yesterday (Apr. 21) to the appreciation of relatively large crowd.

The ‘Bring It’ event is held in preparation for the ICC WT20 West Indies 2010 cricket matches in St. Kitts that are scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 16.

Performing the tournament song, ‘Bring It’, Mr. Vegas and Fay-Ann entertained the crowd for 15 minutes, engaging them in a competition by dividing them into two halves to find out which half was the liveliest.

Although the regional artistes did not perform any other of their hit songs, the interaction they gave seemingly pleased the crowd that included adults and children.

There were other performances including Natal, who is said to be the protégé of Mr. Vegas. He gave a rendition of two songs before a Michael Jackson impersonator took to the stage.

The King of Pop look-alike is said to hail from Jamaica and, in an audio introduction before arriving onstage, he said it was an honour for him to impersonate the greatest entertainer of all-time.

He was truly in the likeness of Michael as he copied everything including the way he wore his hair, clothing, shoes, his dance moves and the way in which he pursed his lips. He also used a head microphone, Jackson’s trademark, as it allowed him to dance freely onstage.

The impersonator also lip-synched Jackson’s ‘The Way You Make Me Feel’ and ‘Billie Jean’. The event, which began at 4:00 p.m. and ended a few minutes after 6:00 p.m., commenced with giveaways including T-shirts when the correct answers were given to various cricket-related questions.

The crowd was also entertained by some of St. Kitts’ notable characters including ‘Ducky’, who sang what appeared to be Beres Hammonds ‘I feel Good’. He won himself a T-shirt along with  ‘Jeff’ who sang his popular ‘Hail De Man’ song.

The first official game takes place on April 30 at the National Stadium in Guyana.
