DR Garfield Alexander -candidate for SKABA chief
By: St.Kitts Sports News, Press Release

BASSETERRE St.Kitts, February 1st 2011 - The overdue St.Kitts Amateur Basketball Association Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held Saturday February 5th at the home of the SKNFA Football House Lozack Road. According to the associations constitution the AGM was due in November of last year however over the last few years the AGM has been held in between the months of January and February. The main agenda item of the AGM will be the SKABA elections which has been the topic of many discussions over the past weeks since current President James “Barman’ Hanley has indicated that he will not seek re-election.

Hanley has had a term which was littered with many issues including the resignation of at least 2 executive members in addition to an early season highly publicized “face-off” of sorts between the SKABA executive and the Ghetto Roots Basketball Club over the eligibility of Dale Rochester aka the Bobo Dread. The plethora of issues faced by President Hanley in addition to the traditional issue of inclement weather may have for the first time been too much for the seasoned legendary basketball administrator and thus his decision not to seek re-election.

A number of names have emerged as possible candidates to vie for the Presidency including former Vice Presidents Dr. Garfield Alexander and Wallis Wilkin. Wilkin, who currently serves as General Secretary, has indicated that he has no interest in the Presidency while Dr. Alexander has not confirmed or denied that he has any interest. Other names that have been banded about include former National Coach Leroy Littol Benjamin Jr.  and former Games Commissioner Romel Tobias.

Among the meetings agenda is the presentation of the Presidents report and the association’s financial report as is required by the constitution.  In addition an appeal of the suspension of Hitters guard Ansel Revan will also be brought to the SKABA body for resolution. Revan was suspended as a result of an incident that took place in the Challengers League which he got an automatic 2 year suspension. However the Hitters club has appealed the suspension and is seeking an audience with the SKABA body to hear and bring the issue to a resolution.

The Meeting is scheduled for a 5pm start and all Club members are asked to send 2 representatives.
