Police Press Release

     

    During the early morning hours of Thursday 31st August 2006, officers of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police and Defence Force executed a search warrant on the premises of Phillip Lloyd of Mattingley Heights. During the search officers found approximately twenty (20) pounds of vegetable material suspected of being cannabis, fifty-five (55) rounds of various ammunition, one .22 rifle and one Keltec 9mm pistol.

     

     

     

    Lloyd has been charged with the following offences: "Possession of a Controlled Drug", "Possession with Intent to Supply a Controlled Drug", "Possession of Ammunition", and "Possession of Firearm". The drugs seized have an estimated street value of $1,600.00 Eastern Caribbean Currency and Lloyd will appear shortly at the Basseterre Magistrate Court to answer to the charges.

     

     
    The following persons were arrested and charged on 30th August 2006;

     

    ·         Henry Matthew of Saddlers Village was charged with the offence of "Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm".

     

     

     

     

    ·         A (17) seventeen-year-old male juvenile of Stapleton Village was charged with the offences of "Battery on a Police Officer", "Assault", "Indecent Language", "Obstruction", "Threatening Language" and "Resisting Arrest" committed on 30th August 2006. The offences occurred when an officer apprehended the juvenile for breaching a court order.

     

     

     

    ·         Warren Browne of Rawlins Village, Nevis was charged with the offence of "Rape" committed on 19th August 2006 at Farms, Nevis.

     

     
    The following persons were convicted at the Charlestown Magistrate Court on 30th August 2006.

     

    ·         Alison Jones of Fountain Village, Nevis who was charged with the offences of "Driving without Insurance" and "Driving without a valid drivers license" was convicted and fined $750.00 to be paid by 27th September 2006 or in default serve two (2) months imprisonment. The offence was committed on 29th August 2006 at Cades Bay, Nevis.

     

     

     

     

    ·         Kurtley Norford of Westbury, Nevis who was charged with the offence of "Malicious Damage" committed on 27th August 2006 at Westbury, was convicted and sentenced to serve six (6) months imprisonment.

     

     

     

    Today Thursday 31st August 2006, a post mortem was carried out on the body of Vincent "Fatman" Grey of Fry's Village, Basseterre. Pathologist, Dr. Stephen Jones stated that Grey died as a result of gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen with haemorrhage and shock. On Monday 28th August 2006 officers responded to a report of gunshots being fired in the LaGuerite area where Grey's body was found.

     

     

     

    The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police is urging any person with information in relation to this incident, to contact the Criminal Investigation Department at 465-2241, extension 220, 236 or 466-8351 and can do so anonymously.

     

     
    CORRECTION

     

    With reference to the press release dated Wednesday 30th August 2006, the Basseterre Magistrate Court conviction for Kervin Hanley should read as follows, with the highlighted section being inserted.

     

     

     

     

    ·         Kervin Hanley of Boys Village who was charged with the offences of "Threatening Language, "Indecent Language", "Disorderly Conduct" and "Refusing to give his name" was convicted of all charges. He was sentenced for each charge as follows; to serve two (2) months imprisonment with hard labour; cautioned; placed on a bond in the sum of $1,000.00 to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for six months or in default serve one month imprisonment with hard labour and cautioned. The offences were committed on 14th August 2006.
