    Officers from Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) charged with implementing courses aimed at raising the standard of education of nationals
    BASSETERRE
    , ST. KITTS (APRIL 1ST 2004) - Officers from Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) charged with implementing courses aimed at raising the standard of education of nationals, enhancing their livelihood and reducing the level of poverty will be holding sessions at various primary schools in St. Kitts next week.
     
    Head of the Continuing Education Unit, Mrs. Joan Phillip said registration for the CFBC’s Adult Education Grassroots Project short-term courses in computer literacy and hospitality services.
     
    Mrs. Phillip said registration is also going on for the Personal Development Courses in Food Preparation 1, Social Psychology, Inter-personal Communication, Sign Language and Design and Dress Making.
     
    Registration is also taking place for persons who wish to acquire or upgrade their skills in retrofitting, trowel trades, plumbing and Computer-Aided Financial Management.
     
    According to Mrs. Phillip, officials from the CFBC will be at primary schools to provide further information and registration.
     
    On Monday 5th officers will be at the primary schools in Cayon and Lodge at 6 P.M. and at Molineux and Tabernacle at 7 P.M..
     
    On Tuesday 6th at Boyd’s and Old Road at 6 P.M. and Sandy Point and Newton Ground at 7 P.M.
     
    On Wednesday 7th at Dr. William Connor and St. Paul’s at 6: P.M. and at Irish Town and Dieppe Bay at 7: P.M.
     
    And on Thursday 8th April at St. Peter’s and Saddlers at 6 P.M. and at New Town and Mansion at 7: P.M..
     
    Classes for the various courses start on April 13th.
     
    The courses are aimed at raising the standard of education of nationals, enhancing their livelihood and reducing the level of poverty.
     
    Target groups include the employees at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Estate, Bourkes Industrial Estate, prospective homeowners, sales personnel in the shops, stores and building material departments, future entrepreneurs, vendors, construction workers, students, employees in tourism and other members of the general public.
     
    The programme has the full support of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas. Dr. Douglas recently stated that his administration wants to ensure that persons develop new skills so that they can be better able to market themselves and go into the new job opportunities being made available.
     
     A Rural Adult Education Programme (RAEP) introduced by the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Government in 2001 was aimed at providing persons from the rural areas with lifelong skills so that they can become employable or self-employed.
     
    The programme is also geared towards finding alterative employment as a result of the serious challenges faced in the sugar industry and to make workers more competitive.
     
    Since its inception, scores of young, adult and even elderly persons have been awarded certificates for successfully completing courses in basic and intermediate computer literacy, hotel-related fields, hair dressing, construction trades, disaster preparedness, responsible parenting and small business management.
