Douglas (second from left) speaking to reporters during a Cocktail Reception hosted by the Government of Jamaica during a Venezuela-CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting in Jamaica to discuss the PetroCaribe Agreement in January this year.
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, DECEMBER 7TH 2006 (CUOPM) St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas says the recent re-election of Venezuelan President His Excellency Rafael Chavez is indeed a definite showing of support by the masses of his commitment in advancing the interests of his Bolivarian brothers and sisters by eliminating many of the social ills that plague all of the regional countries.

"Your unstinting efforts to alleviate poverty in your beloved country are very evident through "Barrio Adentro" and similar programmes," said Dr.

Douglas in a message of congratulations to Chavez, who earlier this week was returned to office with over 60 percent of the votes.

Prime Minister Douglas said he was confident that during Chavezs new term he will increase his firm resolve to promote social progress while "espousing the principles which we have longed shared: transparency, sound democracy, good governance and equality for all."

The St. Kitts and Nevis leader used the opportunity to express the nations deep appreciation to ~~Adz:Left~~ President Chavez for Venezuelas assistance through the PETROCARIBE Initiative and commend him for his "significant role in providing free transportation services for hundreds of our nationals who travel to Cuba to undergo ophthalmic care."

Dr. Douglas told President Chavez he looks forward to meeting with him early in his new third term "to further dialogue about practical means of deepening our relations."

"On behalf of the Government and People of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, I extend best wishes for your personal good health and continued peace and prosperity to the warm and friendly people of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela," said Prime Minister Douglas.
