    DEAD: 20-year-old Gregory Anthony Zakers
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE may be a little closer to solving the case of the murder of Gregory Anthony Zakers with the arrest “on suspicion” of a juvenile who is said to be from the St. Pauls area.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry, in speaking with SKNVibes, informed that the youngster was picked up by police yesterday and though arrested, no charges have been brought against him.

On Saturday morning a tourist, who was at Black Rocks at Belle Vue, sighted the motionless body of what was then described as a young male.

The tourist, as this media house understands, alerted a taxi driver who, in turn, contacted the police. The police arrived on the scene and investigations began.

While it was not then confirmed, abundant speculations suggested that the corpse was that of Zakers, who was not seen by his family since Thursday last when he left his home bound for St. Pauls to visit a female friend. He, according to police, was reported missing to the St. Pauls Police Station on Friday “after he failed to return home”.

A police press release issued later on Saturday confirmed the discovered body was that of Zakers and informed that, when found, his body was “half dressed…(and)...showed several marks of violence” which led them to suspect foul play.  ~~Adz:Right~~

Less than two months ago, Zakers, who was jointly charged with Jamal Bradshaw and Fitzroy Challenger with the murder of 16-year-old Josh Smithen of St. Pauls, entered the court house bound but left shackle-free as a jury unanimously found him “not guilty” of the September 8, 2006 incident. Smithen sustained a stab wound to his head; a wound which caused his death.

As per the usual, any person having information relative to the incident is asked to contact the St. Pauls Police Station at 465-6281 or the crime hotline at 707.  “Information received will be kept in strict confidence”, police promise.

Zakers’ death marks the sixth murder to have occurred in the Federation in 2008. One murder was committed in Nevis and five were in St. Kitts.
