(Port-of-Spain, Trinidad) --- Yesterday the working population of Trinidad and Tobago took the day off to celebrate in various forms the Roman Catholic holy day Corpus Christi, (Latin for Body of Christ).

Corpus Christi is primarily celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church and commemorates the Holy Eucharist, referred to as Holy Communion. It is celebrated on the Thursday of Holy Week, the day on which Christians commemorate The Last Supper of Jesus Christ and his apostles, which is viewed as the first Holy Eucharist.

Corpus Christi celebrations were in full swing yesterday in San Fernando where persons of the Roman Catholic faith were called upon to remember the true meaning of the holiday by evaluating their personal lives.

During a sermon delivered at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church Father Allen Ventour was quoted as saying, “But do we do that? Do we tell everyone that I have Jesus inside of me? Many of us go about our business as usual. As we celebrate Corpus Christi let us take Him into the place we live, work and study.”

Ventour further emphasized the importance of Corpus Christi in cleansing the nation and highlighted each individual’s personal responsibility to share their inner strength and power with another. ~~Adz:Right~~

During a brief interview with SKNVibes.com San Fernando native and active member of the Roman Catholic faith 20-year-old Rachael McQueen Robertson shared her personal interpretation of Corpus Christi.

“For me Corpus Christi is a time to reflect the past season of the Catholic calendar and to keep your spiritual self in check. Usually we attend mass on Corpus Christi and after that we plant seeds as part of local tradition because it is believed that when you plant things on Corpus Christi they are fruitful. After that we rest in honor of the holiday,” she explained.
