BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young woman caught shoplifting this afternoon (Mar. 5) in C&C Super Foods was fined EC$1 000 and had to pay for the items she had stolen.
Kishona Rawlins of Lower Fiennes Avenue in McKnight was caught stealing three tubes of Aqua Fresh Toothpaste and one bottle of Palmolive Dish Liquid valued EC$73.97.
Rawlins was arrested, charged and immediately taken before Her Worship Josephine Mallalieu-Webbe at the Basseterre Magistrate’s Court, who slapped her with an EC$1 000 fine and ordered her to pay C&C Super Foods for the four stolen items.
This media house was told that at approximately 1:20 p.m. Rawlins went shopping at the supermarket and had presented a number of items to the cashier but was observed by another employee acting in a suspicious manner.
The young woman was then asked to take out the contents of a blue bag she had slung over her shoulder within which the four items were discovered.
The police were summoned and she was arrested and taken to the Basseterre Police Station along with the items.
This is not the first time shoplifters had targeted C&C Super Foods.
On Sunday (Feb 12), a couple had stolen a two-pound tin of Red and Yellow Cheese from that establishment.
In recent times, there has been an increase of shoplifting in Basseterre and, if not all, most of the perpetrators were apprehended after their images were caught on camera.
Among the business places that were targeted are Lucky Cosmetics, King’s Pavilion on Port Zante, J’s Shop and Save, Valu Mart IGA and Dufry Shops on Port Zante.
