Sandy Point Agricultural Co-op to be featured in Black San's Tractorcade

By: Jenise Ferlance, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – “EVERYBODY COME” is the theme for this year's Black San Bang-A-Lang festival and that is just what the Sandy Point Agricultural Cooperative Society Ltd. (SPACS) is asking everyone to do, as they gear up to be featured in the upcoming Black San Tractorcade.

On Saturday (Mar. 31), tractors of all sizes along with persons of all ages would be hitting the streets of Sandy Point in grand style to kick-off the much anticipated community event.

Like last year (2011), SPACS would be leading the event and, according to Lionel ‘Trustme’ Stevens, one of SPACS' farmers, “the Co-op will be out in its numbers”.

Stevens explained that SPACS would be first in line with their well-decorated tractor displaying fruits, vegetables and all the necessities to showcase what is being done in agriculture.

The members would be displaying posters, banners, placards and flyers in an effort to promote agriculture and healthy living.

Plan-D out of Barbados is also expected to be a part of this year's much anticipated event. He would be performing live on the Cooperative’s tractor throughout the street jam session.

SPACS would also be printing T-shirts for fans and anyone interested in helping the drive to bring fun and excitement to agriculture.

Stevens said that all persons have to do is bring a T-shirt - either red, green or yellow - and the printing would be done absolutely free.

T-shirts would be printed with SPACS’ name and logo on the front as well as Black San’s theme for this year’s festival – “Everybody Come!”

The back of the shirts would display the Cooperative's motto: “Striving to achieve food security through the use of historical resources and technology”.

    For free T-shirt printing, contact members of SPACS at 869 668 4403 or 869 760 7471.

This major event is expected to start at 3:00 p.m. and is scheduled to kickoff from Romney Ground, Cleverly Hill in Sandy Point.

The street jam is also expected to travel along the island's main road down 42nd Street into Fig Tree and back on the main road, where it would culminate at Sandy Bank (Hard Court) for the official opening ceremony to start the ball rolling on one of the biggest festivals in St. Kitts.
