Thanks for making Black San’ 2012 extraordinary!

SANDY POINT, St. Kitts and Nevis, April 25th, 2012  --   Black San’ 2012 is now over and parent organization SPIRIT has announced its pleasure in the quality of this year’s month-long events, thanking all community partners, volunteers and patrons.

Last weekend saw the closing events of Black San’ Bang-a-Lang with an outpouring of hundreds on the streets of Sandy Point to get their last chance to enjoy the famous festival until next year. The fast-growing community festival, witnessed an enhanced line-up of events, greater quality gigs and more events for the family as it delivered a hard-to- rival package in its second year.

This year’s festival ran from March 25 to April 21 under the simple chant-inducing theme ‘Everybody Come!’, and had a slate of events from open-sky poetry and drama nights to more care-free and jubilant street jams. And, to the organizers, the festival this year showed a marked improvement from last year’s.

SPIRIT PRO Che-Raina Warner deemed Black San’ 2012 an ‘’enormous success’’ and was part of the group’s agenda to be more inclusive of families and of different forms of performing arts.

‘’We really saw our theme this year ‘Everybody Come’ at work. We not only saw families turning out in droves, but we were also able to host events for the 8-year old and also some for the 80-year old.

‘’Also, we’ve noticed that businesses have responded very well to the ‘everybody come challenge’ and our sponsorship this year is clear that more and more businesses are taking their rightful place as partners in our work toward greater community development. And to them we owe much appreciation,’’ Warner said.

The festival was backed by big names in media and communications like SKNVibes and LIME while trading and manufacturing giants RAMs, Carib Brewery (SKN) and TDC renewed their support with impressive sponsorships. Organizers wish to thank the many returning and first-time sponsors who have come onboard to see the festival grow, and are confident that a closer relationship will be forged for future SPIRIT projects and programmes.

These sponsors must be given full acknowledgement for their hard work in Black San’ 2012. They are: SKNA National Bank, FND Co-operative Credit Union, Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd, Caribe Café, KFC, St. Kitts Auto Supplies, Sky Safari Tours, S. L. Horsford & Co. Ltd and Triple 8. The festival also saw stronger support from its community partners Daniel's Trading Centre, E & K Supermarket, Triumph Beauty Store, Dollar Stretcher, St. Kitts Auto Supplies and Lenox Warner & Partner.

Youth brands like Cane Juice Clothing, TruCapo, G-Spot Night Club, PepTv and Lock Off Records were big supporters as well, and the festival got a boost from the professional work of Kreations Inc, Tombstone International, KYSS 102.5FM and other media houses.

"SPIRIT also wishes to thank all our community volunteers, the schools in Sandy Point and all the local bands and artistes! The people of Sandy Point and surrounding communities cooperated nicely with us for all the events, and we say thanks to all those who made their way to Sandy Point to be part of BLACK SAN’ 2012,’’ Warned added.

The festival organizers also sent out special thanks to the Royal St. Christopher & Nevis Police Force and all other security forces, particularly the Sandy Point Branch, for their visible presence at all the events, ensuring that the month-long festival was not marred by any major incidence of violence. The Red Cross and Emergency Medical Services also came in for high praise for being on stand-by and for providing on-sight support for a number of events.

Partnership with a number of key government Departments also played a great part in ensuring the festival’s success. SPIRIT wishes to thank the Ministry of Agriculture, SKELEC, Ministry of Sports, Public Works Department, Ministry of Culture and the Department of Community and Social Development, as well as the St. Christopher & Nevis Port Authority for their support and close partnership throughout the entire festival.

It is not too late to make a donation to the festival via the website: www.blacksanbangalang.com. While you are there, feel free to catch up on what people are saying about this year’s event, and scan through the latest photos and videos of the festival! The financial report of Black San 2012 will be made available following SPIRIT’s second annual AGM expected to be held in May.
