    Photo taken from CNN.com: The body of Pope John Paul II lies in state Monday at St. Peter's Basilica after being carried in a procession from the Apostolic Palace where it had been since Sunday. John Paul II's funeral will be held Friday morning. His remains will be interred in the grotto of St. Peter's Basilica where popes throughout the ages have been laid to rest.

     

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (April 5, 2005):
    The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis expresses on behalf of citizens and residents of the Federation its condolences on the passing of His Holiness Pope John Paul II. In a statement issued today by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, the Pope was described as one, who, in some way, touched the lives of people of various faiths.
    Prime Minister Douglas in his official statement to the Vatican Embassy said, As Prime Minister, I wish to express my sincere personal condolences and those of the Government and people of St. Kitts and Nevis to the Vatican and Catholics everywhere on the passing of His Holiness Pope John Paul II. It is my hope that his legacy for the promotion of peace and the resolution of conflict worldwide will be perpetuated by his successor and the institution that he so faithfully served.
     
    His Holy Father, Pope John Paul II has touched the world, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, and by his will, he has made and indelible mark on the world and in the minds and lives of many, especially the poor, the youth and the marginalized. He was the Spiritual Leader, not only of Catholics, but also of the wider world as he sought to reach out across the religious divide in uniting humanity.
     
    Citizens and residents have been responding to the passing of Pope John Paul II in various ways, including participation in a requiem masses held at the Co-Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Basseterre and the Sacred Heart in Sandy Point.
