Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 07th, 2013 (SKNIS): Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas joins with nationals at home and abroad in mourning the death of local businessman and owner of Radio One, 94.1FM, Cecil Edward Gus Williams who died last Monday (February 4), after a period of hospitalization.

Prime Minister Douglas told SKNIS that he was saddened to hear of the death of his friend, and expressed his sympathy to his family for their loss. The Prime Minister stressed that Gus Williams contributed significantly to the Federation.

“He served as Chairman of the National Carnival Committee for several years, was committed to responsible broadcasting with Radio One, and always greeted you with a smile and quick comment to make you laugh,” the Prime Minister stated.

Prime Minister Douglas also highlighted Mr. Williams’ social contributions as a member of the Rotary Organization and recalled his passion to see the development of St Kitts and Nevis. His pursuit of the Basseterre Harbour redevelopment project, with a number of parties from the United Kingdom, was cited as an example of such.

Gus Williams was born on St. Kitts in 1948 and relocated to England with his parents during the Caribbean migration of that time.  Mr. Williams had a love for broadcasting and after returning to St. Kitts with his family, established Radio One 94.1FM, an adult contemporary station.  Radio One distinguished itself with a format that attracted a mature audience and was a familiar sound for the expatriate community.

Mr. Cecil Edward Gus Williams was 64.
