Press Release

Basseterre, St Kitts, 17 April 2013  --  Twenty-five (25) young professionals from different industries now have a solid foundation in leadership training having completed the inaugural Leadership Training course offered by Jenkins Limited in partnership with the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

The twelve-week course, which was primarily facilitated by R A Peter Jenkins of Jenkins Limited, focused on varying aspects of leadership.  During the sessions, participants were taught the art of management, communication, teamwork, entrepreneurship and financial management.  Other areas of focus were

According to Ms Sandra Richardson, a course participant, “The pace of change in the world continues to be phenomenal – adequate and continuous training combats these changes.  This Leadership Course exceeded my expectations in many ways and although I have been in the Banking profession for the past 21 years, there were many key elements to Leadership that were very new to me.  There were many ‘aha’ moments as our Chief lecturer Mr R.A. Peter Jenkins and many affluent guest speakers hammered home the qualities that Leaders should have and should display.”

During the 12 weeks, participants undertook two major projects: A Community and an Economic Project.  As part of the community outreach project, participants targeted 5th form students of the public high schools in St Kitts through a Job Preparation Workshop.  Attendees were able to benefit from sessions on Marketing Yourself, Conquering the Dreaded Interview and Surviving the Probation period and Beyond.

Mrs Debbie Isaac, one of the presenters at the Career Workshop, stated that the participants in the Leadership Course felt that based on their experience in their different areas, too many students were graduating from high school with the academic qualifications but not the soft skills that were necessary to thrive in the job market.  She further stated that as young professionals, course participants thought it was critical to focus on this target group.  She noted that based on her experience the students had responded well to the workshop and were very engaging with presenters.

The course participants also had to pool their resources and skills to host a take-away breakfast in Basseterre.  Participants invested their time and money into the venture and most thought that the experience gained was invaluable.  Not only were they able to hone their teamwork skills but they had to make the personal sacrifice of finances and time to achieve a common objective.  Following the project the group decided that any profit made would be donated to the CFBC to advance their research facility.

The overall participant experience was enhanced through the support of various guest lecturers who were captains of industry in their field.  These lecturers brought practical application to the theory that participants were learning.
