Deceased bus driver identified… passengers unharmed

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE bus driver who perished this morning while operating an omnibus has been identified as Irvin Hughes of Stone Fort.

The unfortunate incident occurred this morning shortly before seven O’clock.

Hughes was operating omnibus HA72 ‘Big Blue’ along the Island Main Road, travelling eastward, when he reportedly fell ill during the commute. This caused the vehicle to veer to the right and collide with a parked jeep.

That impact pushed the jeep into a vehicle that was parked aback of it.

SKNVibes understands that at the time of the incident, ‘Big Blue’ was carrying approximately two passengers, none of whom were injured.

The area’s District Medical Officer Dr. Garfield Alexander was summoned to the scene and pronounced Hughes dead after which his remains were removed therefrom.

This is the second driver in as many days to have lost his life while driving a vehicle.

The first was Joseph Percival of Freeman’s Village.

Percival was driving along the Irishtown Bay Road when he became incapacitated with illness which resulted in him losing control of the vehicle.

He was taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital where he died.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force is making investigations into both incidents.
