BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – INVESTIGATIONS are being made into a fire that occurred at Masses House, Church Street early this morning (July 15) and the authorities have declared that arson is suspected.

Acting Head of the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services Everette O’Garro told SKNVibes that sometime around 4:15 a.m. a report was made at the Basseterre Fire Department concerning the fire.

He said a unit quickly responded and on arrival at the scene discovered that a window on the northern side of the building was ablaze.

Owing to their diligent work, the fire officers were successful in quenching the blaze before it got time to spread to other parts of the building.

O’Garro said the fire caused damage to the window and its frame.

When asked if arson is suspected, the Acting Fire Chief responded in the affirmative, explaining that when the fire officers were on the scene, they detected the scent of what appeared to be an accelerant (flammable liquid).

Members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force were called to provide assistance in making investigations into the incident.

As such, the area was cordoned off from the public and the enquiry process had begun.

Masses House is not only the home of the Labour Spokesman, mouthpiece of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, but also the home of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Secretariat.
