CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A wanted man’s hostility towards law enforcement officers landed him at the hospital nursing gunshot wound(s).

Main Street, Charlestown, Nevis resident Anthony ‘Moochu’ Hendricks was shot by police during the early morning hours of Friday, January 30, 2009.

According to a police press release, at about 1:50 that morning, Nevis police were making an attempt to execute a “warrant of arrest which was in existence for Anthony ‘Moochu’ Hendricks”. The release further states that it was during the attempt that the wanted man became “violently” resistant and “as a result he was shot in the leg in order to subdue him”.

The injured wanted man was taken to the Alexandra Hospital where he was said to be in stable condition. SKNVibes understands that he is still warded there.

Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry told this media house that the man was wanted for “burglary” and he is likely to be charged with that and other offences shortly.

Meanwhile, the suspect, who was shot and injured by police during a chase on the morning when 17-year-old Isimba ‘Ratty’ Bradley was shot in Central Street and died on the Bay Road, was discharged from the hospital and released from police custody.

The alleged suspect, Bernel Whyte, was shot by a police officer in Market Street shortly after the shooting death of Bradley in the early hours of Saturday, January 10, 2009.

He was however released from police custody on Friday, January 23, hours after being discharged from the Joseph N France General Hospital.

Whyte said it was his 18th birthday on the morning that he was shot and maintains that he was not involved in anything illegal. The police have however informed that although he was released from their custody, investigations are ongoing.

And Police operations conducted in Nevis have resulted in three males being arrested and charged.

Police have informed that they executed search warrants on the premises of Kenyatta Jones of Fountain Village and of Joseph Belgrove of Spring Hill for “illegal drugs, arms and ammunition” and drugs were found on both. The finds resulted in them being arrested and formally charged with possession of illegal substances.

Travis Clarke of New Castle was taken into police custody after he was stopped and searched by police in Nevis.

The police have indicated that Clarke was stopped and searched during routine stop and search exercises and he was found carrying one round of 9mm ammunition. Both the ammunition and Clarke were taken into police custody.

Other operations conducted in Lodge Village, St. Kitts resulted in a 19-marijuana-plant find. The plants, according to police, were found growing in a canefield and removed and placed in police custody. No one has been arrested and charged.

    Court Conviction

A $15 000 fine was slapped on Church Ground, Nevis resident Clayton Byron after he was convicted of “possession of cannabis with intent to supply”.

He appeared before the District “C” Magistrate Court recently and was ordered to pay the fine within six months or in default, he will have to serve 18 months imprisonment at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP). Police say the offence was committed on December 19, 2008.

    Arrests

Three individuals, Maxwell Christopher of Tabernacle, St. Kitts; Kevin Merchant of Clay Ghaut, Gingerland, Nevis; and Dwight Webbe of Hanley’s Road, Nevis; will appear before the court shortly to answer to their respective charges.

They were charged with “shop breaking with intent”, “house breaking and larceny”, and “inflicting grievous bodily harm” respectively.
