By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CHESIL GLASGOW, the man charged with the murder of Clement ‘Hump’ Greene of Stone Fort Heights Project in Challengers Village, was recently set free after the Court upheld a no case submission.

According to a police communiqué, a preliminary inquiry was held at the District ‘B’ Magistrate Court, where the prosecution had closed its case after calling on six witnesses. However, defence counsel Chesley Hamilton made a no case submission, which was upheld, and Glasgow was discharged.

Sometime after 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Greene was shot to death in his business place that was situated aback his residence in Stone Fort Heights Project residence.

Reports reaching SKNVibes had stated that on the day in question, whilst in his shop, Greene was allegedly approached by an individual who attempted to rob him and fatally shot him during the process.

The motionless body of the 57-year-old was found lying on the floor of his shop.

Just days after police arrested the then 25-year-old Glasgow, who also resided in the same area, and charged him with Greene’s murder.

Many people within the area where Greene lived had a good word to say about the deceased.

One of them was former Minister of Sports the Hon. Glenn Phillip, who was the Parliamentary Representative of the area.

Phillip, who visited the crime scene, had told this publication that he had known the deceased for his entire life and described him as a close friend who was always willing to give to those in need.

“I was in Cabinet and I received a call indicating that there was a shooting in Challengers. So, quite naturally, I made a call and I found out that it was my neighbour and friend, and it happened at a place that I visit daily. As a matter of fact, I usually stop there at mornings to buy bread.

“It is very devastating at this point in time knowing the nature of the individual and what he has done for ordinary persons who live across here. I could attest to a lot of acts of kindness that he has provided for persons in the community, whether it is providing persons with provisions for free or whatever it is…”
