Police Officer arrested for allegedly throwing ganja over prison wall

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has arrested on of its own after he allegedly attempted to get an illegal substance into Her Majesty's Prison.

This publication understands that the incident transpired sometime after 8:00 p.m. yesterday (Sept. 27), and according to reports the officer was caught allegedly throwing what is believed to be a quantify of marijuana over the prison wall.

The young officer, SKNVibes understands, operates a business in vicinity of Bakers Corner, Basseterre.

This publication is unaware of whether or not the officer was charged but he could face both criminal and disciplinary charges.

A police communique issued this morning confirmed that the incident took place at about 8:30 p.m. and Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley reiterated that the RSCNPF would not condone wrong doing.

"As upholders of the law, we expect our officers to maintain the highest standards of integrity. We will not condone wrong doing and everyone is responsible for their actions and will be held accountable. Officers who engage in corrupt practices will face the consequences as prescribed by law."

Investigations into the incident are being made.

Following a 21-day closure of Her Majesty’s Prison to the public in February this year, over 300 contraband items were reportedly found hidden within the walls of the correctional facility.

Those finds had led to the implementation of improved security measures, including the replacement of old Close Circuit Television Cameras mounted around the perimeter of the prison, which were no longer monitored by police but Prison Officers.

However, at that time, this media house learned that a section of the perimeter adjacent to the Basseterre Police Station was one of the areas in which there was no CCTV.

It was also learnt that since a number of contraband items were found in the prison during a search on Tuesday (Sept. 20) that signalled the start of ‘Operation Safe Streets’ by the RSCNPF, Superintendent of Prisons Junie Hodge had indicated that more stringent security measures would have been implemented.
