Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris greets Mr. Neals Chitan, Crime Reduction Specialist and Social Skills Consultant
By: Ministry of National Security, Press Release

6th February 2017—The Ministry of National Security, in collaboration with the private sector Coalition for Support of Security Initiatives, will be holding an Uprooting Crime & Violence National Crime Reduction Symposium at St. Kitts Marriott Resort on Thursday 9th February 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

After opening remarks by the Hon. Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris, the Keynote Presenter, Dr. Neals Chitan, will engage a cross section of about 200 stakeholders in discovering and addressing twelve psychosocial roots that feed prevalent crimes. This will be followed by open discussion on the twelve roots of crime, as well as any other issues that, in the opinion of stakeholders, need to be addressed in order to uproot crime and violence in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Participants will then meet in professional or special interest groups. The root of crime that is most germane to their profession will be identified and using the guidelines that will be provided they will discuss and build at least one relevant strategy to address that root. All strategies will be collected and, using the EDER framework, will be categorized under one of the four EDER components- Enforcement, Diagnosis, Education and Rehabilitation, thereby building a St. Kitts and Nevis national comprehensive strategy for crime reduction.

All invited stakeholders attending the symposium are asked to be seated by 8:45 a.m. in order to facilitate a prompt start at 9:00 a.m.

Media personnel covering the symposium are requested to have their instruments in place by 8:15 a.m.
