BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – YET another establishment at Port Zante has been broken into and according to reports, hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise was stolen therefrom.

News that First Class Jewelry was broken into – during the early morning hours of today (Feb. 13) - began circulating with the proprietor – A. U. Brown - making a short post on his Facebook page, which included pictures of the damage.

SKNVibes made contact with Brown for comment but he declined, save to confirm that the incident took place. He also informed that contact should be made with the police and if necessary, his Facebook post can be referred to.

The post read, “On the eve of Valentine's Day thieves broke into First Class Jewelry and stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. I was notified by the police Sandy Point Police at about 5:30 am today.”

A press release issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force late this morning informed that the Criminal Investigations Department is making investigations into the break-in/larceny incident which “occurred sometime between 3:00am and 4:30am…”

SKNVibes understands that the perpetrator(s) gained access to the store by breaking one of the glass windowpanes and according to the police, they made off with a number of pieces of “quality merchandise including jewelry, perfumes, hand bags and electronics”.

The police press release stated that a security guard responded to the “noise in the area of the store” and when officers responded to the incident, they discovered the guard “under duress”. It however did not indicate what state of duress the guard was found in.

On the weekend of February 3, the Police reported that two establishments on Port Zante – Taiwan Tasty and Blue Water – were broken into and a number of items stolen. These included a cash register, watches, money and a karaoke machine.

“Investigators from CID urges the community to be mindful that engaging in the purchase of items known and found to be stolen is a violation of the law,” the police press release read.
