Seven convicts scheduled for sentencing

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SEVEN convicts are up for sentencing at the Basseterre High Court as they were either found guilty of their crime by a 12-member jury panel or pleaded guilty to the charge.

     

    Some may even be sentenced next week Thursday, Feb. 1, after the completion of various inquiries.

     

    Up for sentencing is Douglas Anniel who pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a certain male on June 4, 2011 in Basseterre.

     

    He has also pleaded guilty to another charge of indecent assault of a certain male this time occurring sometime between July 11-31 2010 in Basseterre.

     

    Anniel is unrepresented by counsel.

     

    Kervin Bergan also pleaded guilty to building breaking and larceny of a number of beverages from Inons Bar at Frigate Bay Beach.

     

    The items he stole include one case of Black Label, one case of Beehive, one case of Ponche Kuba, one case of red wine, one case of Blunt, all to the total value of EC$685 - all belonging to Vernon Nias.

     

    Clive Grant also pleaded guilty to being found with housebreaking implements occurring on January 22, 2011.

     

    Randale Hanley who was charged with burglaty and receiving pleaded guilty to receiving several items said to belong to Rickford Hallequin.

     

    According to the prosecution claims, a burglary occurred at Hallequin’s home on April 27, 2009, with a number of items being stolen including a cell phone, gold ring and shaving machine totaling to the value of EC$4,300.

     

    Elvis Bradshaw was found guilty by a 12-member jury of unlawful wounding and wounding with intent of Darren Hendrickson.

     

    The case was tried on Jan. 17 and the incident occurred on February 9, 2011.

     

    Chaddin Buchanan is also up for sentencing as he pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding of Leroy Veira.
    That incident occurred on Nov. 14, 2009.

     

    And finally, Alpha ‘Raga’ Duporte who was convicted of Dexter ‘Asbal’ Marsham’s murder is also up for sentencing and may be sentenced next week.

     

    After hours of deliberation a 12-member jury, on (Dec. 5) unanimously found Duporte guilty of the murder of Marsham and guilty of two counts of attempted murder of Royden Gumbs and Jessica Gumbs.

     

    According to the prosecution, on July 18, 2009, Duporte did murder Marsham in Godwin Ghaut in the vicinity of his home.

     

    The prosecution called a total of 14 witnesses while the defence decided to say nothing and called no witnesses after the prosecution closed its case.

     

    Duporte was represented by Hesketh Benjamin and Dr. Henry Browne.

     

    The prosecution’s witnesses identified Duporte at the scene of the crime and one witness said they saw Duporte standing over Marsham shooting him while he was on the ground.
